Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Storage Engineer to spearhead operational, testing, and documentation initiatives for our enterprise storage and networking infrastructure. This role places a significant emphasis on hands-on expertise with Dell EMC PowerFlex and Dell EMC PowerMax (PMAX) systems, alongside Dell Switches.
Your responsibilities will include executing daily operational tasks, conducting rigorous resilience and failure testing, optimizing performance, and producing comprehensive technical documentation such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Low-Level Designs (LLDs), and diagrams.
A key focus will be on PMAX testing and validation, including managing snapshots, simulating various failure scenarios to ensure system resilience, and verifying alert functionalities. You will also be instrumental in developing and maintaining detailed SOPs for a wide range of operational tasks, from volume creation and masking to patch installation and configuration backups.
Furthermore, you will tackle PMAX-specific technical tasks, such as debugging syslog configurations and documenting LUN-per-port mappings for optimal load balancing. This role is critical for maintaining the integrity and performance of our storage environment.
Required Skills
Key Responsibilities
- Lead operational, testing, and documentation activities for enterprise storage and networking infrastructure.
- Focus on Dell EMC PowerFlex, Dell EMC PowerMax (PMAX), and Dell Switches.
- Perform day-to-day operational tasks on PowerFlex, PMAX, and Dell Switches.
- Produce and maintain technical diagrams and documentation using Visio.
- Create and restore snapshot copies on PMAX.
- Simulate port/path failures and validate host multipathing behavior.
- Test single power supply failure scenarios and validate system resilience.
- Export and restore Unisphere configuration backups.
- Confirm alert visibility and accuracy within the Unisphere dashboard.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for various PMAX operations.
- Debug and troubleshoot syslog configuration between PMAX and the client syslog server.
- Document LUN-per-port mapping as part of Low-Level Design (LLD) deliverables.
- Review LUN-per-port mapping for Front-End port load balancing.
- Review PMAX ports for errors and performance issues.
Qualifications
- Proven hands-on experience with Dell EMC PowerMax (PMAX) administration and operations.
- Experience with Dell EMC PowerFlex in an operational/support capacity.
- Working knowledge of Dell networking/switching infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of SAN concepts: multipathing, LUN masking/mapping, snapshots, service levels.
- Experience with Unisphere for PowerMax management.
- Proficiency in Visio for technical documentation and diagramming.
- Strong documentation skills — able to write clear, structured SOPs and LLDs.
- Experience with syslog configuration and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with performance monitoring and capacity planning on enterprise storage arrays.
- Dell EMC certifications (e.g., PowerMax, PowerFlex specialist certifications) are preferred.
- Prior experience in a client-facing or managed services environment is preferred.
- Experience supporting telecom or large enterprise environments is preferred.
